Exchange-Traded Funds Information Since integration into the National Market System in August 2000, ARCA has offered electronic trading of exchange-traded funds, or "ETFs." Our clients believe that we provide an efficient, anonymous alternative to the traditional floor-based marketplace. The differences between ARCA and floor-based systems have been underscored by decimalization, in terms of ability to view full depth of book (and hence true supply and demand) and unfettered price competition (no time and place advantage exists on ARCA). We hope the information below serves as a helpful introduction to our ETF business. About ETFs ETFs represent shares of ownership in either fund or unit investment trusts that hold portfolios of securities which are generally designed to correspond to the price and yield performance of their underlying portfolios of securities, either broad market, sector or international. ETFs give investors the opportunity to buy or sell an entire portfolio of stocks in a single security, as easily as buying or selling a share of stock.
